Ruth Weisberg works primarily in painting, drawing, printmaking and large-scale installations. Artist and professor, she is the former Dean of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California since 1995. Ruth Weisberg is represented by Jack Rutberg Fine Arts in Los Angeles. 

Weisberg is well known for her paintings reflecting upon the cycle of life; the continuity of generations. The artist also has long held interests in preservation, extinction and survival. Since her arrival in Los Angeles in 1969, Ruth Weisberg has been a formidable influence and mentor to decades of artists in this city and beyond. Her first major survey in Los Angeles was in 1979 at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. She was the first artist exhibited at The Women’s Building (Judy Chicago was simultaneously presented with a solo exhibition to inaugurate that venue). With more than 80 solo exhibitions and nearly 200 group exhibitions internationally, Weisberg is the first living painter to have been afforded a solo exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum of Art in 2008-2009. Weisberg also holds that distinction at The Huntington Library. 

Ruth Weisberg has executed many ambitious large-scale works, including the 94-foot mixed-media painting “The Scroll,” which was exhibited at the Skirball Cultural Center. She painted the 29-foot mural “New Beginnings: One Hundred Years of Jewish Immigration” as part of a commission from the UJA Federation. The mural was installed in the headquarters’ entrance in New York City. 

Ruth Weisberg’s work is included in the permanent collections of over 60 museums, including the Metropolitan Museum, National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., Whitney Museum of American Art, Portland Art Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Getty Research Institute, Norton Simon Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Detroit Institute of Arts, Biblioteque Nationale in Paris, and the Instituto Nationale per la Grafica in Rome, among many others.

Curtis Bartone's work explores how human beings perceive, define, and mythologize wilderness and our fragmented view of our place in the environment. His recent pieces combine various perceptions of the natural world, ranging from non-objective, scientific views to Judeo-Christian ideas of mankind’s dominion over “every living thing that moveth upon the earth” to “pagan” views of natural occurrences as codes or messages to be deciphered. Bartone fuses Renaissance painting, 17th-century Dutch still life, 19th-century scientific illustration, literature, and collections in natural science museums, with a contemporary aesthetic informed by photography and mass media. His work has been shown in 21 solo exhibitions and in more than 80 group exhibitions in several countries. He has received numerous grants and awards, including two Illinois Arts Council Grants, and has been awarded several residencies--most recently, the Emmanuel College Artist Residency in Boston for the summer of 2016. There, he will be creating a suite of etchings based on the ten plagues of Egypt. Currently, Mr. Bartone resides in Savannah, Georgia with his wife and seven cats. He splits his time between making prints and teaching printmaking at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Raised in the open ranch land of Northern New Mexico, Leon developed an affinity for the Southwestern landscape. He was greatly influenced by his grandmother’s involvement in Northern New Mexico art circles. Later study at the Colorado Institute of Art along with private study reinforced his abilities. Stationed in Germany while in the army, he was able to travel extensively throughout Europe, visiting museums and maintaining sketching journals. In addition, he studied painting techniques of the old masters for two years, finishing by copying a Franz Hals at the Stuttgart Stattsgalerie Art Museum. Long having an interest in pen and ink, etching took on a special meaning from the museum’s collection of etchings.On his return to Colorado, Leon began to study the intaglio techniques and selling the prints in mountain galleries. In 1998, Leon purchased his first letterpress and received immediate success with the woodblock prints he produced. The layering of color in the woodblock process allowed him to better capture the atmospheric qualities of the Southwestern Landscape that have such a strong meaning for him.Leon has continued to develop his printmaking skills and currently owns a publishing company, producing his Reduction Style Woodblocks as well as limited edition books. His woodblocks are exhibited nationally and collected by numerous museums. He and his wife also own a gilding studio, producing and restoring hand carved gold leaf frames for museums and collectors.
In creating my collagraph prints, I utilize experiences available to me with a diverse array of materials and techniques to create a visual feast. I draw inspiration from the beauty of the Pacific, the rolling vineyards of France, the patches of tulip farms in Holland, from the intensity and colors of India, and the urban and suburban landscapes of California. These impressions are combined on my inked plates with handmade papers collected from Japan, France, India, Nepal and Thailand. I cut, scratch, adhere, mold and manipulate materials onto my plates without conventional limitations. By producing prints using everyday mundane materials, I am placing my work in an entirely new context, with the goal of challenging and changing the viewer’s perceptions. In an age of extremes, wealth and poverty, peace and discord, technology and ecology, my art strives for a universal landscape of harmony, blending cultural decorative motifs, color, texture and pattern.
